Preble Songs

The Sailor Song

I’m a sailor

On the ocean.

I’m a sailor

On the sea.

When we stop

This rock-n-roll-a-motion

The happier

I’ll be.

The remaining words are unintelligible,

And never known by me.

The song was recorded in one take.

I figured out the chords as the song progressed,

And sang gibberish in accompaniment,

Only matching the vowel sounds emanating from their creator.

Only Sidewinder, the author, knew what the words were,

And that was 20 years ago.

There is no doubt they were rich in Navy lore,

So, if he is still around,

He probably has completely forgotten them.

Sorry for any disappointment.
